About me... 

My name is Shelley L. Leland and I am a Certified Reading Specialist.  Throughout my career, I've been an educator, lead literacy coach, academic advocate, reading specialist, private reading tutor, and academic coach.   Academic needs range from disabilities, disengagement, anxiety, and skill deficits to the need for exposure to advanced information beyond grade level to challenge cognitive ability.  My job is to diagnose the reading and executive functioning needs, develop an in-depth plan, and coach the learner to acquire the skills necessary to produce exceptional growth as a reader in all academic areas.

 

My philosophy...

It is my philosophy that literacy instruction should be systematic, differentiated,  high interest and generate confidence.  My mission is to help students of all ages achieve personal academic goals and develop as life-long learners. 

 

My journey...

I began my career in the classroom, then pursued my masters in Reading, and subsequently became a lead literacy coach modeling quality literacy instruction in classrooms throughout schools.  My private practice evolved as I encountered a critical demand for quality reading services to address and accelerate individual student growth.  Based out of Downers Grove, Illinois, I currently provide services throughout the western suburbs of Chicago.
